The Tempest is a line of sour and barrel-aged beers that deliver unexpected brilliance with every sip. Like its namesake, this collection turns the tide for a generation of beer lovers by introducing a new, delicious take on traditional styles.

Much like the women after whom these beers are named, Tempest beers are unorthodox and challenge the status quo.

THE BARONESS

BOURBON BARREL STOUT

HISTORY

Bertha von Suttner, the first female to win a Nobel Peace Prize, took bold steps with a calm spirit. That’s exactly what The Baroness achieves by aging our traditional Bertha Oatmeal Stout in bourbon barrels – a smooth and spicy brew for every lord and lady.

IMPRESSIONS FROM THE BREWMASTER

The bourbon character is present, but balanced by a richness from the malt and oats. Cherry and vanilla swarm the palate complementing an oaky finish. We wanted to make a beer that was moderate in ABV and full of flavor. This beer aged for over a year as we moved from our old brewery, to our new facility. We then blended, to taste, the barrel aged version with fresh beer from our new brewery. We hope with every sip you can experience the story we are trying to tell. Cheers.

THE HAMILTON

DRY-HOPPED SOUR ALE

HISTORY

Neil took the first steps on the moon, but without Margaret Hamilton’s quiet technical genius and bad-ass brilliance, it never would’ve happened. She inspired our dry-hopped sour, featuring Azacca and Amarillo hops. It’s a soft yet spicy citrus-forward brew that shines bright. We have lift off.

IMPRESSIONS FROM THE BREWMASTER

When the Tempest line was born, we knew we wanted a dry-hopped sour ale. Starting with a base of our golden ale, we add brettanomyces as well as a special house strain to get things started. After maturing in neutral barrels for over 8 months, we have the perfect balance of sour flavor and depth. We finish it off with a healthy dry hop to bring it home when it dances across your palate.

Josephine Baker broke boundaries in the entertainment industry and served as a voice for human rights across the world. The spotlight is on her vibrant personality and eclectic taste which serve as the inspiration for this tart saison.

IMPRESSIONS FROM THE BREWMASTER

At our brewery, we devote a lot of our time to planning; especially, when it comes to forecasting the ingredients and materials used to make beer. However, we do occasionally end up with some “odds and ends” that allows us to test our creativity. We had healthy French saison yeast from a previous brew, which we decided to pair with some lychee fruit puree that also needed a home. I liked where the beer was headed, but after an addition of Brettanomyces Lambicus, I knew we had something special. Cavalier is complex, but surprisingly cohesive. A nod to the old world, but relatable in today’s every-changing beer landscape. Enjoy!

BELGIAN STYLE TRIPEL

US Navy Admiral “Amazing Grace” Hopper popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages used first in WWII. Our Belgian Tripel honors leadership and ingenuity as an elegant bouquet of Belgian character commands our attention with every sip. Oh captain, my captain!

We are all BIG fans of Belgian-style beers at our brewery and when it came time to brew something that celebrated our 5th year in business, we decided it should be a Tripel. Sticking as closely as possible to the style guidelines, we decided not go out on a limb with this one like most of our other Tempest creations. This was a chance for us to pay homage to the beers that ignited our passion for this industry, and it’s unique history. A slightly sweet malt bill with a creamy mouthfeel lay the foundation for a bouquet of yeast-derived character and the complexity this style is known for.
